HELP TO TICKOPRINT
QUICK HELP
- Interconnect the sensor and pre-amplifier device to the phone or tablet.
- Wind the watch.
- If you know the beat of the watch, select it from the drop-down list. If not, let the application determine it.
- Select the Lift Angle of the watch if you know it. Otherwise, you can leave the default value of the application.
- Start the application.
PRELIMINARY WORDS.
The timing machines are actually precursors of modern computers in certain ways. They have been used by watchmakers to determine the rate of advancement or delay of a watch since about 1930. By 1945 he already had a place in watchmaking workshops.
In principle, these devices "hear" to the inside of the watch and compare its progress with a very precise time pattern.
Now smart phones have the potential to overcome the Timing machines that were manufactured until about the 70s of the last century, in analog technology. Currently with digital technology.

HOW TO USE THE APPLICATION
Requires little preliminary configuration. The options that must be configured are: The bph, and the Lift angle. The bph works well in AUTO. In it the application will automatically determine the bph of the watch which is the number of beats per hour. The "Lift angle" is a value that the manufacturer of the watch movement knows and publishes. Unless it is known accurately, it should not be modified. By default it is good at 51 degrees.
Therefore, we summarize: bph: AUTO. Lift angle: 51 degrees. That is all.
You can use the built-in microphone of the smartphone.
You can also use the microphone of the smartphone's headset. In a reasonably quiet environment, the test watch is placed as close as possible to the microphone. (Warning! The headsets of the mobile phones, usually have powerful magnets that can magnetize the watch if they are placed very close to it.)
A third option is by connecting the Tickomic. (Specialized microphone to listen to the watch)
Once this is done, it is only to let the application stabilize and deliver the results. In a period of 1 to 2 minutes, the values of the test can be determined with certainty.
What to expect.
There are three values that the application delivers and each one offers important information.

What to expect.
There are three values that the application delivers and each one offers important information.
- Rate. Informs about the running precision. The advance or delay of the watch expressed in seconds per day.
- The Beat error. Expresses the balance of rotation of the main regulating organ of the watch: The balance wheel. It is expressed in milli-seconds. The value must be very close to "zero". 0.0. (0.0 is the ideal value and can only be achieved in very good quality watches and correctly configured [This value together with the rate, can be affected by a blow to the watch]) values greater than one (1.0) require correction and for Over 3 are unacceptable, although the watch is apparently working fine.
- Amplitude. This value is expressed in degrees and is the most to right side value on the screen. This value indicates the amplitude of rotation of the balance wheel. The acceptable values are above 250 degrees and ideally close to 300 degrees. Within these ranges, the performance of the watch is acceptable. A very low amplitude value indicates that the watch needs a service. Particularly a poor cleaning, and with it a poor quality of lubrication will result in a very low amplitude, say below 220 degrees. These conditions are presented in watches that have not received service in a period exceeding 5 years
IT'S GOOD TO KNOW: HOW A MECHANICAL WATCH WORKS.
Having an idea of what happens inside a mechanical watch will be beneficial to understand the operation of the application. See the link to an excellent video animation.

SELECTING THE METHOD OF SHOWING THE INFORMATION.
The first, "timing machines" due to the technology in which they emerged, did not have the possibility of digitally displaying the values. So they deployed it in a very simple way. Most of the cases were by means of a dotted line whose inclination would indicate advance to delay respectively. Today the data can be displayed numerically.

THE OPTIONS THAT PERMITS TICKOPRINT:
Numerical values.
Displays the information with numeric values.
Displays the information with numeric values.
The numerical values and also the dotted row.
The numerical values and the plot of the timeline or "trace"
Drawing of the waveform. Examined later.
BEFORE MAKING MEASUREMENTS.
After downloading the application and during the first use, it is imperative to have an internet connection, in order to complete the calibration protocol which will allow high reliability results. This process can also be done later. Finding the "Calibration" function in the application's start options. There are also other important functions such as "performance estimation", which allows a self-analysis of the performance of the application on the installed device. It also has a tick simulator function. That allows you to learn more about how the application works.
PERFORMING THE TESTS.
Place the microphone and pre-amplifier to the device. Making sure that the device indicates that the microphone is active.
Place the watch between the sensor clamp. And it is left on a stable surface. (Due to the sensitivity of the microphone it is better not to hold it in your hands.)
Now press the start button in the application and the rest will be solved by the application. Before or during the process you can choose the graphic representation mode you want to show. Precision, Line or waveform.
The interpretation of the results is quite simple.

We can summarize it like this:
1.- Daily Rate
2.- Beat error. And
3.- Amplitude
Depending on the type of watch, there will be a deviation margin that can be expected. Very high quality watches should be marching with a deviation margin of -5 to +5 seconds per day at most.
A Beat error that is above 1.0 requires attention and is considered out of precision range values over 4ms.
One of the most important indicators of the health of a watch in general sense is the amplitude. This should be above 220 degrees and in a freshly repaired watch and with excellent service and lubrication it should be close to 300 degrees.

TECHNICAL TERMS
- Amplitude: Expression related to the amplitude of rotation of the balance wheel from its resting position towards any of its ends.
- Balance Wheel: Main part of the watch's escape mechanism. This is what determines the accuracy of time measurement.
- Beat error: Time difference between two successive tics
- bph: Beats per hour that records the escape mechanism of a watch.
- Integration Time: Time that the application uses to average the data flow it processes. A short integration time allows faster but less precise readings. A longer integration time will give slower but more reliable readings.
- Lift Angle: Value in degrees that must be entered in the application. This can be obtained from the manufacturer of the analyzed movement or through different sources on the Internet.
- Rate: Deviation of advance or delay showing a clock measured in seconds per day.
- Time Axis: It allows to visualize a greater or lesser amount of analysis time
- Timing Machine: Apparatus used to analyze the progress of watches, usually mechanical.
